Best Boundary Microphones for conference rooms

IT and facilities teams, many identical rooms, no operator present

A boundary microphone works by using the table as part of the microphone. That is its advantage and its whole weakness: it hears the table. Laptop fans, coffee cups, a pen tapping and the HVAC all arrive at the capsule with the same enthusiasm as the person speaking.

In a room nobody operates, the useful question is not which unit measures flattest but how many you need and where they sit. Two microphones covering six people beats one microphone covering eight, and a cardioid or hemispherical pattern aimed at the seats beats an omni aimed at the ceiling tile.

What matters for conference rooms

  • Pattern that faces the seats rather than the whole room
  • Coverage per unit, so you can work out how many the table needs
  • Low enough profile that people do not move it to make space
  • Connector and power that match the DSP already in the rack
