Sony ECM-MS2 Compact MS Stereo Condenser Microphone
The ECM-MS2 is a compact mid-side stereo condenser built to sit on a handheld camcorder without appearing in the shot. At 137 mm long and 160 grams it is short enough to keep out of a wide lens and light enough not to unbalance a small body, which is the practical reason it exists.
It switches between stereo and mono, so the same microphone captures accurate ambient stereo for cutaways and a directional mono track when dialogue is coming from wireless lavaliers. Stereo response runs 80 Hz to 20 kHz, mono 70 Hz to 20 kHz, self-noise is 25 dB SPL or less, and it handles 125 dB SPL. Two XLR-3-12C connectors carry the channels, on 40 to 52 V phantom to IEC 61938 P48. A windscreen and cable tie are supplied.
