Shure BLX14/B98 Instrument System Free a Horn or Drum
The Shure BLX14/B98 is a wireless instrument system that frees a horn, drum, or percussion player from a cable while keeping the sound of a hard-wired clip-on mic. The BETA 98H/C is a miniature cardioid condenser on a gooseneck that clamps to the bell of a wind instrument or the rim of a drum, so it moves with the player and stays in position. Its cardioid pattern rejects the rest of the stage to keep bleed and feedback down at volume.
The mic plugs into the BLX1 bodypack transmitter, which pairs with the single-channel BLX4 receiver over the UHF band. One-touch QuickScan finds a clean frequency, and the system reaches up to 300 ft line of sight with up to 14 hours from a pair of AA batteries. The kit ships with the BLX4 receiver, BLX1 bodypack transmitter, BETA 98H/C instrument microphone, PS24 power supply, and a carrying case.
