AKG HELICAL Circular Polarized Directional UHF Antenna
The HELICAL is AKG's high-gain directional antenna for the jobs a paddle struggles with: a front-of-house position several hundred feet from the stage, a stadium, a broadcast compound. It is passive, covers 470 to 740 MHz, and delivers 9 dBi over a 63 degree beam, aimed where the transmitters actually are instead of listening to the whole room.
Circular polarization is the reason it holds up in these environments. A handheld transmitter is rotated and tilted constantly, and a linearly polarized antenna loses signal every time the two disagree; a circular polarized antenna does not care about the transmitter's orientation. It works for receiving a wireless microphone system or for transmitting in-ear monitoring, on an N connector into 50 ohms, and an N to BNC adapter is in the box. The nylon cover is water resistant and compresses the helix down to fit in a rack drawer between shows.
