Audio-Technica U853PM Cardioid Condenser Hanging Microphone
The U853PM is a cardioid condenser hanging microphone from Audio-Technica's UniPoint series, designed for permanent installation where the mic should be seen as little as possible. Suspended over a choir, an orchestra, a theater stage, or an altar, its cardioid element gives even coverage with strong off-axis rejection for maximum gain before feedback, and UniGuard RFI shielding keeps it quiet near wireless and dimmer noise.
Unlike the standard hanging U853, the PM version powers and connects through an AT8534 wall/ceiling plate module that mounts in a single-gang electrical box and lands the audio on screw terminals, so the cable run disappears into the wall. The module carries roll-off and +10 dB gain switches, and the mic accepts interchangeable UniPoint elements (omnidirectional, cardioid, hypercardioid, or UniLine) to change its pickup angle. It requires 11 to 52V DC phantom power and ships with the AT8534 module, an AT8153 two-stage foam windscreen, an AT8451 steel hanger, and an AT8438 stand adapter.
