Audio-Technica AT4049B EL

The AT4049b-EL is the omnidirectional head capsule from Audio-Technica's 40-Series modular condenser system, the element half of the AT4049b studio microphone. Its externally polarized (DC bias) condenser element and true omnidirectional pattern give an open, uncolored response that captures a room, an ensemble, or an ambience pair without the proximity coloration of a directional mic.

The capsule threads onto the AT4900b-48 phantom-powered body (sold separately) to build a complete microphone, and swapping to a cardioid or hypercardioid head on the same body changes the pattern. Response runs 20 to 20,000 Hz with a switchable 80 Hz, 18 dB/octave roll-off handled at the body, so one investment in a body covers several patterns as the session demands.
