Audio-Technica AT4040
The AT4040 is a side-address cardioid studio condenser whose large, precisely tensioned diaphragm gives a smooth, natural sound that flatters vocals and instruments alike. It marries advanced electronics with a transformerless design for low noise and fast, accurate transients. The cardioid pattern and high headroom let it move easily from a soft vocal to a loud guitar cabinet.
It handles up to 145 dB SPL, with a 10 dB pad extending that to 155 dB for the loudest sources. A switchable 80 Hz high-pass filter helps control low-end rumble and proximity. It runs on 48V phantom power over a 3-pin XLR output, and its versatility has made it one of the most widely used condensers in its class.
