The MC4001 exists because an active-cable microphone has nothing conventional to clamp: the capsule and its MMP-ER or MMP-ES preamp housing are short and light, and a standard 19 mm clip has nothing to grip. This clip holds that assembly and secures it to a table base.

It is the part that turns a hanging or rigged active-cable microphone into a table or podium position.
