An in-ceiling speaker with nothing behind it uses the plenum as its enclosure, and a plenum is not a consistent volume. The SPKA-BC gives the IC6 and IC8 a defined acoustic back can, which makes the low end predictable from position to position instead of dependent on what is above each cutout.

It also cuts the sound that would otherwise cross into the next room over the wall line. Supplied a pair at a time; one per speaker.
