Sontronics XLR to USB-C Cable with Smartphone and USB-A Adaptors
This is a 2 m cable with an analogue to digital converter built into it: female 3-pin XLR at the microphone end, USB-C at the computer end, with USB-A and smartphone adaptors supplied. It turns any dynamic microphone into a device a laptop or a phone recognises without an interface, and it needs no drivers on Windows, macOS, iOS or Android.
The converter runs to 21 dB of gain with a 2.3 to 5 V bias, a 93 dB signal to noise ratio and THD+N at -70 dB across 20 Hz to 20 kHz, drawing at most 40 mA. It works in both directions, so it also feeds a powered speaker from a USB source. Note that it supplies bias, not 48 V phantom, so pair it with a dynamic microphone such as the Podcast Pro or SOLO rather than a condenser.
