Porta Brace SMG-2B Smuggler Camera Case, Black
The SMG-2B Smuggler is a rigid, well-padded case for small digital cameras such as the Canon XL-1 and the Sony DSR-200A, with extra protection for delicate viewfinders. Exterior and interior pockets hold batteries, tapes, tripod plates, white balance cards and other accessories, and a suede shoulder strap is included.
What makes it a Smuggler is the two modes. Compressed, it satisfies carry-on size requirements at most airports by letting you partially dismantle the camera, usually just the viewfinder, mic, sometimes the brick battery and the lens shade; soft padded fleece-lined bags are supplied to protect those components separately. A lens bridge acts as a shelf over the lens to house the dismantled viewfinder or battery, and if the lens has to come off the shelf turns on its side and touch-fastens to keep camera and lens apart. The armored plastic viewfinder protector and the back of the case compress flat, and a travel cover wraps the case tightly for snag-free shipping. Expanded, it goes back to being a field case.
