The GM1600 is a 15.3 cm gooseneck for putting a 4060-series miniature microphone exactly where it needs to be on an instrument and leaving it there. Miniature capsules are light enough that a gooseneck actually holds its aim, which is why this is a common way to mic strings, brass and percussion without a stand in the player's way.
