The Laowa Aksen 45mm f/2.8 is a parfocal ultra-macro lens: focus stays locked on the subject as you run the zoom ring through its 1x to 5x magnification range, so you frame once and then scale the shot without refocusing. An internal zoom mechanism keeps the barrel length and the 40.35mm working distance fixed, which means the lighting and the camera position stay where you set them. The APO optical design is what holds colour fringing down at the top of that range.
