Sony HDC-3170 HD Digital Triax Portable System Camera (Head Only)
The Sony HDC-3170 is a portable system camera head built around three 2/3-inch CMOS sensors with global shutter technology, so fast pans and quick motion stay free of the rolling-shutter jello effect and banding noise that plague cheaper sensors. It captures pristine HD images with F12 sensitivity at 1080/59.94p (F13 at 1080/50p) and a signal-to-noise ratio of -62dB or better, and it can output 3G-SDI in formats up to 1080/50p directly, with 4K available once it's paired with a compatible CCU's 12G-SDI or Quad 3G-SDI interface.
It runs on Sony's third-generation digital triax transmission system, carrying full-HD images over standard triax cable runs up to 1,800 meters, which lets it slot into existing triax infrastructure at a stadium or studio without a fiber retrofit. The camera also supports High Dynamic Range capture through Sony's SR Live workflow, producing simultaneous HDR and SDR feeds from one camera and one crew. Its magnesium alloy body keeps weight down to about 11 lbs, with a low center of gravity, adjustable shoulder pad, and widened hand grip for handheld operation; this listing is the camera head only and requires a compatible HDCU camera control unit.
