Sony HDLA-3501 Large Lens Adaptor
The HDLA-3501 turns a Sony HDC portable camera head into a full studio or OB build-up that takes a large box lens. The docking mechanism is the working part: the camera drops in and locks with one touch, and power, video and control pass through the hot-shoe interlock, so there are no cables to connect. Because the camera can be pulled out without removing the lens, a hand-held configuration and a large-lens configuration are seconds apart.
This is the simpler and lighter of Sony's two current large lens adaptors, and the trade is deliberate: a wider open area in the exterior design leaves the camera head's own rear panel usable while it is docked. Sony HDVF viewfinders mount on the rear of the camera body - saddle-mount viewfinders are not supported on this model. A type-A USB connector on the inside panel can power a tablet or similar device, with the adaptor supplying up to 108 W in total across its outputs.
