Sony ECM-88B Miniature Lavalier Microphone
The ECM-88B is a miniature omnidirectional electret condenser lavalier built for the quality-critical end of broadcast, theater, and field production. A dual-diaphragm design gives it high sensitivity, a wide 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency response, and a 99 dB dynamic range, so it holds up under both a whisper and a raised voice without changing character. A water-resistant capsule keeps it working through a sweaty stage performance or an outdoor shoot.
The microphone connects through a 4-pin SMC9-4P connector on an 8.2-foot cable and ships with Sony's DC-78 power supply, which converts it to a standard 3-pin XLR output running on an AA battery or 12 to 48 VDC phantom power. That makes it a straightforward swap into any kit already carrying DC-78 or ECM-series lavaliers.
