Sony ECM-90BC Ultra-Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone
The ECM-90BC is Sony's quality-critical lavalier, and the number that explains it is one gram: the microphone body, excluding cable, weighs about as much as a paperclip, so it hides under wardrobe instead of printing through it. A dual-diaphragm design gives it high sensitivity and a 99 dB dynamic range in a capsule that measures roughly 3.6 mm across.
The mounting architecture is the other half of the design. Lavaliers are notorious for turning cable movement into noise; the generous diaphragm mount here is built specifically to reduce that, which is why it survives ENG and location sound rather than being limited to a seated interview. Response is flat from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, self-noise is 26 dB SPL typical, and it terminates in Sony's four-pin SMC9-4P connector for the UWP-D and DWX bodypacks. Windscreens and several tie clips are supplied.
