sE Electronics RN17 Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
The RN17 is the small-diaphragm half of the Rupert Neve collaboration. A hand-crafted 2/3 inch true condenser capsule with a 17.2 mm gold and mylar diaphragm feeds Neve-designed custom transformer electronics, which is what gives this mic its weight on acoustic guitar, overheads and strings, where small-diaphragm mics usually sound thin.
The capsule unscrews: the cardioid head ships with the mic, and an omnidirectional capsule is sold separately, so a pair can be reconfigured for spaced omni room work. Each mic ships in a metal case inside a wooden box with a custom shockmount and thread adapter; the matched pair is factory-paired for stereo.
