Sony ECM-680S MS Stereo Shotgun Condenser Microphone
The ECM-680S is a mid-side stereo shotgun with a switch that turns it back into a highly directional mono microphone. That is the whole argument for it: a single mic on the boom covers the interview in mono, then flips to stereo for room tone, crowd and B-roll ambience without a second microphone or a second trip to the cart.
In stereo the response runs 50 Hz to 20 kHz, in mono 40 Hz to 20 kHz with a supercardioid pattern, and self-noise stays at 21 dB SPL or less either way. It uses an XLR-5-12C male connector, so it lands directly on a Sony camcorder with a five-pin front mic input, and takes 40 to 52 V phantom. A windscreen and stand screw adaptors ship with it.
