Sony C-100 Two-Way Hi-Res Condenser Microphone

The C-100 is Sony's studio vocal microphone for high-resolution recording. It pairs a condenser element with a back-electret element in a two-way capsule, so the broad top end and the weighty low-mids come from separate transducers rather than one diaphragm doing both jobs. Frequency response runs 20 Hz to 50 kHz, and a switch on the body selects uni-directional, omni-directional or bi-directional pickup for vocals, ensembles or room work.

The two-part metallic body is carried over from the C-800G and isolates the capsule from acoustic vibration, which is where the low self-noise comes from. A low-cut filter tames proximity effect and rumble, and a -10 dB pad adds headroom on loud sources. Output is a balanced XLR-3-12C male connector on 44 - 52 V phantom power. Sony supplies the cradle suspension, a windscreen and a W3/8 to NS5/8 stand adaptor; the XLR cable is not included.
