Shure 55SH Series II Vocal Microphone
The 55SH Series II is the modern version of the Unidyne, the die-cast microphone whose satin chrome silhouette has fronted stages since 1939. Inside the vintage housing is a current cardioid dynamic element, so it captures vocals, dialog, and public address with the warm, present midrange Shure built its name on, while the cardioid pattern rejects sound arriving from the rear to keep feedback in check near loudspeakers.
The frequency response dips slightly in the low mids and rises gently from 1 to 10 kHz, a voice-first curve that adds intelligibility without harshness. An on/off switch sits on the body for quick muting, the output is a standard 3-pin XLR, and the pivoting yoke lets you angle the mic on a stand. It is the go-to choice when a performance wants a piece of stage history that still works every night.
