MOTU 24Ai 72-Channel Audio Interface with 24 Analog Inputs and AVB
The 24Ai puts twenty-four balanced analog inputs into a single rack space and adds three 8-channel ADAT optical banks, for 72 channels of input in total. All analog I/O lands on multi-channel DB-25 D-sub connectors and Phoenix connectors, which is what makes it a fixture in installed systems and machine rooms where quarter-inch jacks would be a liability. Line inputs measure 110 dB dynamic range and -102 dB THD+N, using the same analog design as MOTU's 1248, 8M and 16A.
The host connection is audio class compliant USB 2.0, so it works with essentially any Mac or Windows machine and with an iPad through a camera connection kit, and it remains compatible with USB 3.0 hosts. A 48-channel digital mixer laid out like a large-format console provides 7 stereo aux busses, 3 groups, a reverb bus and separate main and monitor busses, with modeled British console EQ and compression. Pair it with a 24Ao when you need the matching output count.
