MOTU 8A 16x18 Thunderbolt/USB3 Audio Interface with AVB Networking
The 8A is the line-level half-rack in MOTU's AVB family: 8 x 8 balanced analog, an 8-channel ADAT optical bank that also carries stereo TOSLink, and an independent headphone output, adding up to 16 inputs and 18 outputs. ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology gives 123 dB dynamic range, matching the rackmount 16A rather than compromising for the smaller box.
Thunderbolt, SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and AVB/TSN Ethernet are all on the rear panel, with support for up to 256 channels over the network and class-compliant firmware for iPad use. Round-trip latency runs as low as 1.6 ms at 96 kHz over Thunderbolt and 1.9 ms over USB. Its 48-input mixer offers 7 stereo aux busses, 3 groups, access to 64 network inputs and DSP reverb, EQ, gate and compression, controlled from a web app the hardware serves itself.
