dbx 266xs Dual Compressor / Gate
The 266xs is the workhorse dbx dynamics processor: two channels that each pair a compressor with a gate, usable as a stereo pair or as two independent mono channels. The compressor knee is switchable between dbx's OverEasy curve, which eases into gain reduction and stays invisible on vocals, and a hard knee for firm level control on a bus or a broadcast feed.
Attack and release run on AutoDynamic program-dependent timing, so the unit tracks the material rather than needing constant adjustment, and the ratio goes all the way from 1:1 to infinity for limiting duty. The gate has its own threshold from -60 to +15 dBu with a 1:1 to 4:1 ratio. A normalled 1/4 inch TRS sidechain insert per channel allows frequency-conscious ducking or de-essing. Inputs and outputs are on both TRS and XLR, in a 1U chassis weighing 4.84 lbs.
