Avantone Pro CR-14 Dual-Ribbon Figure-8 Microphone
The CR-14 uses a dual-ribbon motor, two pure aluminium ribbons 35 mm by 5 mm and 2 microns thick, which raises output and lowers noise compared with a single-ribbon design of the same size. The response runs 30 Hz to 15 kHz within 3 dB, with the natural high-frequency softness that makes ribbons useful in front of bright sources such as brass, guitar cabinets, and cymbals.
It is fully passive and figure-8, so it captures the room behind it as well as the source in front and nulls hard at 90 degrees. Output impedance is 600 ohms or less and Avantone recommends a 3,000 ohm load, so a preamp with a high input impedance and plenty of clean gain will get the most from it. Never send phantom power to it. The microphone arrives with a retro shockmount, wooden presentation box, and metal road case.
