Avantone Pro KICK Subwoofer-Style Kick Drum Microphone
The KICK is a moving-coil microphone that uses an AV10-MLF 18 cm speaker cone as its element, mounted in a birch ply shell with a 10 inch mesh drum head across the front. A driver that size moves enough air to respond down where a conventional kick mic gives up, and the deliberately narrow 50 Hz to 2 kHz response means it captures weight and body rather than beater click, which is what you want when it is blended under a normal kick mic.
The pattern is figure-8, so the rear lobe picks up the room behind the mic while the sides null out the rest of the kit. Output impedance is 6.3 ohms on a male XLR, and no power is needed. The assembly is 11.375 inches square and 5.5 deep, weighs 6.8 lbs on its own, and ships with a double-braced stand.
