AKG PZM30 D Hemispherical Boundary Layer Microphone
The PZM30 D and its smaller sibling the PZM6 D are pressure zone microphones that mount flat against a floor, wall, ceiling, or clear panel, capturing sound in phase with the surface it sits on for a hemispherical pickup free of comb-filtering. That makes them equally at home miking a full orchestra from the stage floor, picking up a conference table, or hanging over an ensemble on a clear acrylic panel.
Both mics switch between a flat response for natural reproduction and a rising high-frequency response that adds brilliance to percussion, piano, or any source that needs a crisper attack without EQ. The PZM30 D uses a rugged detachable cable for touring and installed use; the PZM6 D trades that for a smaller plate and a permanently attached 15-foot cable that all but disappears when suspended over a stage.
