Tascam Portacapture X8 32-Bit Float Field Recorder
The Portacapture X8 records up to 8 tracks (6 inputs plus a stereo mix) from a pair of detachable 14.6mm large-diaphragm condenser capsules that reconfigure between A-B and X-Y stereo patterns, plus 4 XLR/TRS combo inputs for external mics or line sources. Recording in 32-bit float removes the need to ride input gain in the field, since a signal that would clip a 24-bit recorder still recovers cleanly in post.
Files save as WAV/BWF up to 192kHz or as MP3 for quick turnaround, and a USB-C port turns it into a 2.0 audio interface for the same unit to double as a desktop mic preamp. At 472g with batteries it fits in one hand for a field interview, an ambient recording session, or a run-and-gun video shoot, with an optional AK-BT1 adapter adding Bluetooth for a wireless remote or timecode.
