Shure MX391W S
The MX391W/S is the white supercardioid version of Shure's Microflex boundary microphone, a low-profile electret condenser built to sit on a conference table, lectern, or altar and blend into the surface. The supercardioid cartridge concentrates on a talker directly in front of it while rejecting more of the room off to the sides, which keeps a boardroom or house of worship intelligible without putting a mic in every seat. The white finish disappears against light-colored tables and paneling where a black mic would stand out.
The capsule is a screw-in cartridge, so the same base can be refitted with cardioid or omnidirectional elements as a room changes. A 3.7 m (12 ft) cable is attached to the microphone and terminates in a 4-pin mini connector that mates to a separate in-line preamplifier, which feeds a balanced XLR line on 11 to 52 V phantom power. It ships with the RK100PK in-line preamplifier and a zipper storage bag.
