Gitzo leg locks are meant to be stripped, cleaned and regreased, and what goes back on them decides how long they last. This is the grease Gitzo specifies: formulated not to stay tacky, so it does not collect the dust and sand that turn a smooth twist lock into a grinding one.

It protects the metal thread surfaces from wear over repeated cleanings, which is the failure that eventually loosens a lock that has spent seasons on beaches and building sites. Two tubes to a set, which is enough to cover a full teardown of a tripod and have some left for the next one.
