Audio-Technica BP28 Line + Gradient Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

The BP28 and BP28L combine a large-diaphragm condenser element with a custom 28mm diameter shotgun body, a design that trades the usual shotgun's small capsule for one built for exceptionally low-noise performance. A patented acoustic port design keeps the pickup pattern directional across the entire frequency range rather than narrowing or widening at different frequencies the way cheaper shotguns do, which matters for long-distance dialogue on a film or theater stage.

The BP28 runs 14 inches with a highly directional pattern and an 8dB noise floor; the BP28L stretches to 22.4 inches with an even tighter, more extremely directional pattern and a remarkable 3dB noise floor for the longest reach. Both use transformer-coupled outputs for a smooth sonic character, offer extremely high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, and include a switchable 80Hz high-pass filter and 10dB pad for flexibility in loud or quiet scenes.
