Whirlwind MD-1 Portable Mic Preamp and Headphone Monitor

The MD-1 is the box a field operator wears. A broadcast quality mic preamp works into a high performance input transformer feeding a high current line driver and headphone amp, with up to 60 dB of gain, an input pad and a level control so it copes with almost any mic or line source. The unprocessed signal can also be passed straight to the output as a loop through while you monitor it.

A separate balanced line level aux input feeds the headphone amp for a programme mix, console foldback or a director cue, and headphone volume plus a MIX control set the balance between that and the mic. Phantom power is 18 V and switchable, the case is steel with a belt clip, and two 9 V batteries load into slide-out trays.
