Violectric HPA V550 Balanced Headphone Amplifier
The HPA V550 is the analog flagship of the Violectric headphone line, a full-size 290 x 80 x 248 mm desktop amplifier with no converter section. Up to three stereo sources connect on one balanced XLR pair and two unbalanced RCA pairs, selected from the front panel. Output impedance below 0.1 ohm holds the damping factor high enough to drive magnetostatic headphones without altering their frequency response.
Headphones connect on a 6.3 mm jack, a 4-pin XLR and a 4.4 mm Pentaconn, with balanced connectors fed by four separate power amplifiers. Line outputs on XLR and RCA are switchable pre or post the volume control. Volume and balance run on ALPS RK27 potentiometers, and PRE-GAIN sets internal gain in 7 steps from -18 to +18 dB. Dynamic range measures better than 131 dB A-weighted over a 5 Hz to 250 kHz range.
