The STR-AZ5000ES amplifies eleven channels, which covers a full 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos or DTS:X installation from one chassis, and drives 4 to 16 ohm speakers. Four 8K-capable HDMI inputs and two outputs carry 8K and 4K/120 video with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, and the receiver is IMAX Enhanced certified. Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Mapping adds phantom speakers between the physical ones.

Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX with Speaker Relocation tunes the room from the supplied microphone, Zone 2 runs from variable speaker outputs, line level or HDMI, and one IR input and two IR outputs serve control systems. Hi-res playback covers DSD, FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF. The chassis is 430 x 194 x 440 mm, weighs 19.2 kg and draws 500 W.
