The STR-AZ1000ES is the entry point to Sony's ES receiver line, the models built for custom installation with extended warranties and control-system support. It carries four 8K-capable HDMI inputs and two outputs, passes 8K and 4K/120 with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, and is IMAX Enhanced certified alongside Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and the virtualised Dolby Speaker Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X modes. 360 Spatial Sound Mapping fills in phantom speakers around the real layout.

Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX and Speaker Relocation tune the room from the supplied microphone and stand. Zone 2 runs over HDMI, IR repeat in and out is on the back panel, and speaker loads of 6 to 16 ohms are supported. Hi-res decoding covers DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and ALAC, and HDMI accepts LPCM to 192 kHz/24-bit 7.1. It measures 430 x 156 x 331 mm and weighs 9.3 kg; an FM antenna, power cord and remote are included.
