Sontronics SIGMA 2 Active Ribbon Microphone
SIGMA 2 is the studio ribbon in Sontronics' pair, tuned for sources where the ribbon's softness is the point rather than a way of taming volume. It is active and phantom powered, delivering 24 mV/Pa, more than twice the output of the DELTA 2, so a quiet acoustic guitar or a violin arrives at the preamp at a workable level. Self-noise sits at 10 dBA.
The figure-of-eight pattern gives you a real null to place, which is how you keep a vocal out of a guitar mic in the same room. Response is 20 Hz to 15 kHz and maximum SPL is 125 dB, ample for anything short of a cranked cabinet. Impedance stays under 150 Ohms into a standard 3-pin XLR on 48 V phantom. The microphone measures 164 x 50 x 32 mm and ships in an ABS flight case with its shock mount.
