Sontronics HALO Dynamic Microphone for Guitar Amplifiers
HALO is a dynamic built for one job: the front of a guitar cabinet. The body is side-address and flat-fronted rather than a pencil on a boom, so it sits square against the grille cloth at the exact spot you chose between the cone centre and the edge, and stays there when the stand gets nudged. Response runs 50 Hz to 15 kHz, which brackets a 12-inch speaker without adding fizz above it.
The supercardioid pattern keeps the drum kit out of the amp channel on stage. Maximum SPL is above 140 dB, comfortably past what a cranked half-stack produces at the grille. Sensitivity is 5.5 mV/Pa into an impedance under 600 Ohms, on a 3-pin XLR with no phantom power required. The mic measures 162 x 113 x 62 mm and weighs 369 g.
