Sennheiser MK 8 Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone
The MK 8 is Sennheiser's multi-pattern studio condenser, built around the same 1-inch true condenser capsule as the MK 4 but adding five switchable polar patterns - omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, supercardioid, and figure-8 - so one microphone covers close vocal work, wide ensemble capture, room ambience, and Mid-Side stereo pairing without swapping hardware. That range makes it equally at home as a vocal mic, an overhead on drums or piano, or the "Mid" half of an M-S pair using its figure-8 setting.
A 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency response and low 10 dB(A) self-noise keep it competitive with dedicated single-pattern studio mics, while a switchable low-cut filter (60 Hz steep cut or a gentler 100 Hz roll-off) helps tame proximity effect on close vocal or instrument placement. Like the MK 4, it uses a rugged housing with internal shock decoupling and mounts on a standard clip. It requires standard P48 phantom power and connects over a 3-pin XLR, making it a flexible one-mic solution for a studio that needs pattern versatility without stocking several dedicated microphones.
