Fostex TH1000RPmk2 Closed-Back Planar-Magnetic Headphones

The TH1000RPmk2 puts Fostex's RP planar-magnetic diaphragm into the closed TH flagship housing. That combination is unusual: planar drivers are normally vented, and sealing one means the cup has to control the rear wave rather than release it. The payoff is a 100 dB/mW sensitivity on a 32 ohm load, high for a planar, with a 3,000 mW input ceiling that leaves plenty of headroom.

Quoted response runs from 10 Hz to 40 kHz. The supplied cable is 2 m of 7N-grade high-purity OFC, unbalanced, splitting to a 3.5 mm 2-pole plug per cup and ending in a gold-plated 6.3 mm three-pole plug, so a balanced aftermarket lead is a straight swap. Weight is about 420 g without the cable and a synthetic leather pouch is included.
