Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Closed-Back Monitor Headphones

The ATH-M40x is the tracking and mixing member of the M Series: a closed-back dynamic pair with 40 mm drivers tuned flat on purpose, so what you hear is closer to what the file contains than what a consumer pair would flatter it into. The closed housings hold bleed out of a live mic during tracking and hold the mix in when you are working next to someone.

Frequency response runs 15 - 24,000 Hz into 35 ohms, low enough that a laptop or a portable recorder drives it without a headphone amp. The earcups swivel 90 degrees for single-ear monitoring and the pair folds flat for transport. Cables are detachable and three lengths are supplied, so a chewed cable is a part rather than a replacement.
