WEM CUSTOM WEM STARFINDER 1967 810F

The Custom Starfinder 1967 810F is the full-size bass rig: eight 10 inch Hiwatt Fane Sovereign 300-10 drivers in a rear-ported 18 mm birch ply cabinet, cut to the historical Starfinder dimensions. Total handling is 2400 watts, which means the cabinet is not the limiting factor behind any amplifier you are likely to put in front of it, and the eight small cones give the fast attack and midrange definition that a fridge-format cab is chosen for in the first place.

Wiring is the useful part. Three inputs are fitted: a 1/4 inch mono jack that feeds the bottom 4x10 only, a second 1/4 inch mono jack for the top 4x10 only, and a Speakon that drives all eight. The Speakon input is switchable between 4 and 16 ohms, and the two banks of four can instead be run independently at 8 ohms each, so one cabinet covers a single-amp rig, a biamped rig, or two heads sharing the stack. It is handwired and tested in the WEM Custom Shop in England.
