Sennheiser MD 445 Dynamic Vocal Microphone

The MD 445 sits at the top of Sennheiser's dynamic handheld vocal line, built around a supercardioid capsule for singers and presenters working on especially loud or crowded stages. Its tighter-than-cardioid pattern rejects more off-axis monitor and PA bleed than a standard cardioid dynamic, which buys extra headroom before feedback becomes a problem, while its voicing keeps the detail and transparency that Sennheiser's newer dynamic mics are known for rather than an overly colored stage sound. A 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency response gives it real low-end weight and clear top-end articulation.

A hum-compensating coil keeps electrical interference from stage power and lighting out of the signal path, and the capsule sits in an internal shock mount to minimize handling and stand noise. The rugged all-metal body is built to survive the wear of nightly touring use. It runs without phantom power and connects through a standard 3-pin XLR, making it a direct plug-in upgrade for a vocalist who needs the extra isolation a supercardioid pattern provides on a demanding stage.
