Sennheiser e902 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone
The Sennheiser e902 is a cardioid dynamic microphone engineered specifically for kick drums and bass instruments. Its low-frequency response reaches all the way down to 20 Hz, capturing the full weight and sub-energy of a bass drum that narrower mics miss. The voicing includes carefully tuned dips around 200 and 700 Hz that remove boxy, muddy resonances from inside the drum, delivering a dry, punchy, mix-ready sound that needs very little EQ. The result is a focused low end with clear beater attack.
A cardioid pattern isolates the kick from the rest of the kit, and the high-headroom dynamic element handles the extreme sound pressure levels inside a bass drum without distortion. An integral, adjustable stand mount and a rugged 440-gram metal body make placement inside or in front of the drum quick and secure. It requires no phantom power and connects through a gold-plated 3-pin XLR for a clean, corrosion-resistant signal path. A go-to kick mic for live and studio engineers, the e902 blends especially well with the e901 boundary mic for combined inside weight and outside punch.
