Sennheiser e614 Condenser Instrument Microphone
The Sennheiser e614 is a supercardioid pre-polarized condenser microphone built for drum overheads and instrument work. Its small diaphragm responds quickly to transients and captures airy high-frequency detail, making it an excellent choice for cymbals, hi-hats, acoustic instruments, and percussion. The supercardioid pattern tightens isolation and rejects off-axis spill, which keeps overhead channels focused on the cymbals and reduces bleed from a loud stage. A wide 40 Hz to 20 kHz response reproduces the full brilliance and shimmer of a kit with accuracy.
The e614 handles up to 139 dB SPL, so it stays clean on close, loud sources, and its low 24 dB(A) self-noise preserves fine detail in quieter passages. It operates on a wide 12 to 48 V phantom power range and connects through a standard 3-pin XLR, and its compact, rugged body positions easily on overhead stands or clamps. As a small-diaphragm condenser it complements the dynamic e902 and e904 in a Sennheiser drum setup, rounding out a complete kit with detailed top-end capture. For engineers building a cohesive drum mic package, the e614 is a versatile, reliable overhead.
