Sachtler System Ace XL AL MS Mk II

The 1018AM is Sachtler's Ace XL AL MS Mk II package, built around the Ace XL fluid head on aluminium 2-stage legs with a mid-level spreader. It carries 0 kg to 8 kg (0 lb to 17.64 lb) on a 75 mm bowl with integrated flat base. Balance and damping are stepped rather than continuous: 9 + 0 and 3 + 0 drag settings on each axis, so a rig can be matched exactly and then repeated on the next shoot. Tilt runs 90° to -75°, and the camera sits on a slide in plate with 10.4 cm (4.09 in) of travel to find the balance point.

Set up it works between 78 cm to 169 cm (30.71 in to 66.54 in), and folds to 86 cm (33.86 in) for transport. The complete system weighs 4.4 kg (9.7 lb). Levelling is by an illuminated level bubble. Sachtler rates the head from -30°C to 60°C (-22 °F to 140 °F), so the fluid does not thicken in the cold.
