JBL 8138 8-inch full-range in-ceiling loudspeaker

The 8138 is an 8-inch full-range in-ceiling loudspeaker built for background and paging audio in restaurants, retail spaces, offices, and reception areas. A dual-cone 200 mm driver covers 95 Hz to 18 kHz, with a 70V/100V transformer offering 6W, 3W, 1.5W, and 0.75W taps so output can be trimmed to match the zone. Maximum SPL is 105 dB at 1 meter, plenty for a distributed ceiling grid without drawing attention to the speaker itself.

The 8138 requires a pre-install backcan and is not sold as a self-contained can speaker. It mounts on a 286 mm (11.25 in) mounting circle with four attachment points, matched to the JBL MTC-81BB8 backcan and MTC-81TB8 tile bridge for plenum-rated installs. Ceiling cutout is 300 mm (11.75 in) once the tile bridge is fitted, and the speaker weighs a light 1.4 kg (3.0 lbs) on its own.
