Hiwatt DR201 Head

Two hundred watts of valve headroom through a quartet of KT88s gives the DR201 a silkier character than the EL34 Hiwatts, and it lives in the range where clean has stopped and overdrive has not quite started.

Push a channel volume or jump Normal into Brilliant and it saturates. Three ECC83s and an ECC81 make up the preamp, each channel carries high- and low-impedance inputs, and the rear panel selects 4, 8 or 16 ohms. Long a fixture on bass records, it has since made a case for itself on guitar.
