Heil Sound PR 31 BW Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone
The PR 31 BW came out of a collaboration with Nashville engineer Bob Workman, and its voice reflects that: a prominent midrange that puts a guitar cabinet or a Leslie forward in a mix without the EQ pass that a flatter microphone needs. It runs 40 Hz to 18 kHz with a supercardioid pattern and -40 dB of rear rejection, so bleed from the rest of the stage stays low.
The short body is the other half of the design. At 5.5 oz and a fraction of the length of a full-size dynamic, it fits between a tight rack of toms or under a cymbal where a longer microphone simply will not go. Max SPL is 146 dB, impedance 370 ohms balanced, output -52.9 dB at 1 kHz, terminated on a 3-pin XLR.
