Heil Sound PR 40 Large-Element Dynamic Microphone
The PR 40 is Heil's large-element cardioid dynamic and the microphone most often seen on a podcast or broadcast boom. Its response runs from 28 Hz to 18 kHz, unusually wide for a dynamic, which is why voices sit with weight at the bottom without the boxy midrange most stage dynamics carry. Rear rejection measures -40 dB at 180 degrees, so a monitor speaker or a second host across the table stays out of the track.
It is a passive dynamic, so no phantom power is needed, and the 600 ohm balanced output on a 3-pin XLR works with any preamp. Max SPL is 148 dB, which puts it equally at home on a kick drum, a bass cabinet, or a guitar amp. The microphone weighs 13.5 oz and ships with a mic clip and a padded zipper carrying case. Black/gold, chrome, and gold finishes are offered.
