Fostex TH-909 Open-Back Dynamic Headphones with Wooden Stand
The TH-909 is what Fostex built when it opened the back of the TH-900mk2. The 50 mm neodymium driver and its bio-cellulose BioDyna diaphragm carry over intact, at 25 ohms and 100 dB/mW over a quoted 5 Hz to 45 kHz, but venting the rear of the cup removes the pressure loading a sealed housing imposes and lets the stage open out behind the listener.
The cups are Mizume cherry finished in Bordeaux lacquer using traditional Japanese technique. Both are detachable on 2-pin connectors with a rhodium-plated gold base, fed by a 3 m Y-type 7N-OFC cable ending in a gold-plated 6.3 mm plug. Weight is about 390 g without the cable, and a wooden headphone stand and a leather-like pouch are supplied.
